Cape Canaveral National Seashore & More Holidays

This is a diedapper - tiny little duck - I just love saying "diedapper"! The full grown ones are really little. It's like a kitten never turning into a cat!

Sandpiper - run away from the waves on the beach little legs pumping! They have got to be so worn out by the end of the day after all that running.

Osprey - large, graceful bird of prey. Fascinating to watch! They build HUGE nests out of sticks (not twigs) - and can take out a power grid with a nest in the wrong place!

Beautiful fish, delicious fish - must be 11" long fish. Ours wasn't! Oh, well - maybe next time.

Most often seen in the pancake version (as road kill)! We frequently see them on the side of the road digging for bugs.

Don't ask. In Florida, if there is water, there is an alligator in it. Except for really salty water. It's rare to find them in the ocean - but brackish or fresh water is almost certain to have gators.

Turkey Buzzards are everywhere! Waiting for the next road kill! Instead of the Mockingbird, they should be our state bird.

Crazy old bird, the pelican - his bill can hold more than his belly can!

Hubby and I took a drive up to the Canaveral National Seashore Saturday afternoon - beautiful day for it. We both felt like we were communing with nature. Did some surf fishing and he caught a pompano (too little to keep). We mostly just fed the fish, as usual.

The pictures (stolen from various web sites) are of some of the feathered, clawed, finned, armored, etc. critters we saw today. We also saw wild boar, iron head storks, egrets, snake birds, cow birds, porpoise, seagulls, Portuguese Man-O-War, and several people who were actually swimming and must, therefore, be Yankees! No one living in Florida would have been swimming in the cold water without a full wet suit!

AND - if you need a reason to celebrate something today . . . here are a few things you might consider!

4- Birthday of the Blender in 1910
4- National Spaghetti Day
4- Tom Thumb's Birthday (1838)
4- Roller Skates Birthday (1863)
